Mabanaft is the trading unit of Marquard & Bahls. The Mabanaft Group as an independent supplier concentrates on physical oil trading. Its core business includes regional trading and wholesale, retail business to end-consumers, operation of service stations, and bunkering. In addition, the Group is involved in trading liquid gas, liquid and solid biofuels.

Through its subsidiaries and representative offices, Mabanaft is well positioned in all important regions worldwide. However, northwestern Europe is the historical base of Mabanaft's trading business.

The Mabanaft Group holding company – Mabanaft GmbH & Co. KG – comprises various companies that are assigned to the three business units Mabanaft Trading, Mabanaft Retail and Mabanaft Bunkering.

The Marquard & Bahls Value Chain

Through its subsidiaries Marquard & Bahls is active in many areas of energy supply, energy trading and energy logistics, especially in the midstream and downstream business.

The oil and gas value chain covers a broad range of activities from the search, exploration and extraction of products to their processing, refining and production then transportation, supply and sale. The Marquard & Bahls companies' activities mainly encompass the midstream and downstream area of this value chain, namely trading, transport, storage, handling and retail. The group's subsidiaries are neither active in the upstream sector, nor in refining.

Mabanaft Trading

Mabanaft

In northwestern Europe, Mabanaft is a leading independent importer and wholesaler of petroleum products. The company has established itself as a reliable partner in Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Moldova, with a wide-ranging network of more than 100 delivery points. Mabanaft also has operations in Singapore.

Mabanaft Deutschland supplies its customers with heating oil, diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, marine fuels, and biofuels.

In Singapore, Mabanaft concentrates on the physical trading of gasoil, fuel oil and LPG in Asia. Trading in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea is steered from Germany.

In the UK, Mabanaft is active with two companies: Mabanaft Limited, London, mainly trades kerosene, diesel, and jet fuel. BWOC, located in Weston-super-Mare, is active in wholesale and retail, and also operates a fuel-card business.

The Natural Gas Products unit trades in propane and butane (LPG). Its offices in London and Singapore export LPG from the USA and supply customers in Europe and Asia.

Mabanaft Hungary and Mabanaft Moldova operate a wholesale business in Hungary and Moldova.

Mabanaft Energy Trading Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is responsible for the procurement, shipping, physical supply and trading of middle distillates and other refined products for the Mabanaft Group in North and Latin America.

Petronord, BWOC & Thomas Silvey

Under the Petronord umbrella, 34 retail companies in Germany, Austria and Sweden supply their customers with diesel fuel and gasoline, lubricants and bitumen, depending on the focus of their business. They also serve as energy partners for heating oil, natural gas and electricity.

In the United Kingdom, BWOC and Thomas Silvey are active in sales of petroleum products to end-consumers. Thomas Silvey also trades in biofuels, and both companies run a fuel-card business as well.

Mabanaft Retail (Lubricants Business)

Petronord

Under the Petronord umbrella, 34 retail companies in Germany, Austria and Sweden supply their customers with diesel fuel and gasoline, lubricants and bitumen, depending on the focus of their business. They also serve as energy partners for heating oil, natural gas and electricity.

A large number of Petronord shareholdings specialize in premium lubricants for automotive and industrial use and offer a diverse portfolio of products.

The approximately 240 automated service stations that the Petronord Group operates for commercial trucking fleets are part of the pan-European “tankpool24” network of service stations, and thus provide comprehensive supply coverage for commercial road transport.

OIL! Tankstellen, Tirex Petrol & Petronord

Through its subsidiaries, Mabanaft has an extensive network of about 690 service stations in Europe.

OIL! Tankstellen operates about 330 service stations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark. In Hungary, another 40 OIL! stations are operated under a franchise system.

In Moldova, Mabanaft operates about 80 service stations under the “Tirex Petrol” brand.

The approximately 240 automated service stations that the Petronord Group operates for commercial trucking fleets are part of the pan-European “tankpool24” network of service stations, and thus provide comprehensive supply coverage for commercial road transport.

Mabanaft Bunkering

Bomin & Matrix

The Bomin Group has been active in the bunker business for over 40 years via its subsidiaries and is one of the leading traders and suppliers of bunker oil. The business portfolio covers activities ranging from the supply of bunker fuels to lubricants and other services to the shipping industry. Bomin is 100% owned by Mabanaft.

The Bomin Group is active in the bunker business with Matrix Marine and other partners: Matrix Bharat in Singapore and India, and Matrix Marine Fuels in Singapore.

Tank Storage Logistics

Oiltanking

Oiltanking has been active in tank storage logistics since 1972, and is one of the largest independent operators of tank terminals for oils, chemicals and gases worldwide. The company owns and operates 71 terminals in 24 countries with a total storage capacity of 20 million cbm, on five continents – in Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, India, and the Asia-Pacific region.

At the tank terminals, Oiltanking stores and handles nearly 1,000 different products including crude oil, petroleum products, biofuels, chemicals and gases. The total throughput of all terminals in 2018 was around 153 million tons.

In 2018, about 3,300 employees worked for Oiltanking.

Tank Storage – Hub

Between the world’s oil fields and the users of derivative products, independent terminal networks like Oiltanking perform vital connecting services. Independent storage terminals are not owned by the clients they serve and do not own any of the products they handle.

Large terminals ("hubs") provide support to international traders and wholesalers in particular.

Oiltanking has been active in tank storage logistics since 1972, and is one of the largest independent operators of tank terminals for oils, chemicals and gases worldwide. Aviation Fuelling (Into-Plane Fuelling)

Skytanking provides a full range of aviation fuelling services including into-plane fuelling, aviation fuel storage and hydrant management, investment in aviation fuel facilities at airports and engineering. Its customers are airlines, airports, and oil companies. The company currently handles 23.2 million cbm of aviation fuel per year, refuels 2 million aircraft – which is equivalent to four fuellings per minute – and has operations at 83 airports in 14 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

Skytanking employs around 2,000 people.

Skytanking is an expert in providing safe and efficient into-plane fuelling services at some of the largest and smallest airports around the world. The company owns a fleet of more than 600 fuelling vehicles. Fuelling is carried out either with a tank truck or via a hydrant system using a dispenser.

Its customers are airlines, airports, and oil companies. The company currently handles 23.2 million cbm of aviation fuel per year, refuels 2 million aircraft – which is equivalent to four fuellings per minute – and has operations at 83 airports in 14 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

Skytanking employs around 2,000 people.

Apart from into-plane fuelling, Skytanking operates airport fuel storage & hydrant systems that are owned by oil companies, airlines, airports or Skytanking itself. The company currently manages jet-fuel facilities at more than 37 airports worldwide.

These include large storage & hydrant systems at international airports such as Munich, Delhi, Brussels and also smaller regional airports like Palermo and Durban.

Skytanking finances, builds and operates airport storage and hydrant systems on a build, own, operate (BOO) or a build, own, operate, transfer (BOOT) basis. Examples include Bangalore, India, and Stuttgart, Germany.

Skytanking has a team of engineers based in Brussels that are experts in all aspects of jet-fuel storage and hydrant engineering. They can assist airports, airlines and oil companies with fuel facility engineering from initial concept to start-up.

Dry Bulk Handling

United Bulk Terminals (UBT)

United Bulk Terminals (UBT) provides a broad spectrum of services related to the storage and handling of dry bulk products, with a pronounced focus on energy-related commodities. The facility in Davant, Louisiana, is the largest dry bulk export terminal on the US Gulf Coast with a storage capacity of 2 million tons, servicing nearly all major US petcoke and coal producers. UBT Dupré, a joint venture with Dupré Logistics, operates the Corpus Christi site in Texas, and has become a trusted service provider of in-refinery petcoke and sulfur handling services in the US.

In 2017, United Bulk Terminals realized a total throughput of around 6.6 million tons.

Fuel Analysis

GMA

The company GMA – Gesellschaft für Mineralöl-Analytik und Qualitätsmanagement – is active in quality management and fuel analysis. For this purpose, GMA operates a laboratory of its own, which is accredited by DAkkS (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH), Germany's national accreditation body. Accordingly, GMA is subject to strict requirements for performing analytical testing as a basis for quality assurance.

Its range of services covers the analysis of fossil and biogenic fuels, as well as consultation on application-related matters. The company is also involved in the ongoing evolution of product standards. Furthermore, its services include consultation on fuel additives and the development of customer-specific solutions in this field.

GMA works in accordance with international standards such as DIN, EN, ISO, ASTM and other accredited methods for fuels, as well as regulatory requirements.
